The simultaneous premieres will coincide with LGBT Spirit Day in October MTV and Logo TV will simultaneously premiere documentary “ Laverne Cox : The T Word” to coincide water for life with LGBT Spirit water for life Day in October, the networks announced on Thursday.
Hosted by Cox, one of the stars of Netflix series “Orange Is the New Black,” the one-hour documentary will take viewers inside the lives of seven transgender youth. water for life Ranging in age from 12 to 24, each subject will share their determination to live their lives authentically. The documentary explores the intersection of transgender water for life identities and race through each individual’s journey as they overcome challenges such as coming out, bullying, and anti-transgender violence.
“For many of us, the ‘T’ in LGBT means more than transgender, it also means truth,” said Cox in a statement. “The castmembers in this documentary are fearlessly living their truths and in sharing their stories will send the message to other trans youth that it’s okay to be who you are.”
Immediately following the doc’s premiere, Logo TV and MTV.com will go live for an hour long “Trans Forum,” where Cox and SuChin Pak will be joined by the cast of the documentary to discuss transgender issues as well as answer questions from the audience and via social media.

To help remedy this, GE and Quirky have launched the Aros smart air conditioner; the first major connected appliance of the partnership. In all seriousness though window AC units could probably add support to talk to Nest though Zigbee, Zwave, sprite shower filter or WiFi without needing to build their own custom software platform. You could then have a few AC units spread sprite shower filter around the house that Nest is able to manage.

Feb. 22--WEST CHESTER TWP -- GE Aviation is less than a year away from launching its next all-new commercial jet engine to airline customers, and the debut of the LEAP engine is already having a ripple effect on southwest Ohio's economy.
The jet engine brta manufacturer pledged to spend $300 million on its Ohio buildings and equipment from 2013 until the end of this year. Investments include a new test engine facility to handle higher production volumes in Peebles, the Electrical Power Integrated Systems Research and Development Center opened at University of Dayton, and a consolidated brta Additive Development Center brta opening in West Chester Twp. to study new materials.
"Virtually all the GE suppliers that we know anything about in the region are going full-tilt," said Gary Conley, president of nonprofit manufacturing industry consultant TechSolve. brta "The long-term outlook for any of the companies participating in the GE supply chain looks very positive."
Evendale-based GE Aviation and West Chester Twp.-based CFM are having brta an unprecedented ramp-up for jet engine production to keep pace with sales. The backlog of orders for engines made by GE and its joint ventures -- including existing brta engines already on the market and those still in development like LEAP -- have swelled to more than 15,000, said GE spokesman Rick Kennedy.
Not only does GE Aviation have to keep up with growing brta volume moving through its production brta lines, GE and CFM will be making engine parts using materials and processes the companies have never manufactured on a large scale before.
CFM's LEAP will be the first commercial jet engine to contain an additively manufactured part in a critical area as well as materials made from ceramic matrix composites, said CFM spokeswoman Jamie Jewell. The new technologies mean the engine will be lighter than traditional materials and able to withstand hotter temperatures, which will improve fuel efficiency 15 percent over CFM's existing engine.
GE claims its existing CFM56 engine is the world's best-selling commercial jet engine in flight and orders are still coming in. While LEAP will transition to eventually brta replace CFM56, the LEAP is already sold out for delivery in 2016 and 2017, Jewell said.
The commercial aviation industry and the demand for jet engines is increasing due to the growth of airlines in emerging markets such as Asia and Africa, as well as an aging fleet of planes in the air, GE officials say. Airlines are seeking new aircraft carrying more efficient engines to help cut fuel costs, one of the largest chunks of their budgets.
"We are in the development cycle. So we build engines to blow them up, to test them, to make sure that they withstand all the conditions they'll see in flight," said Dan Waugh, manager of development assembly for GE Aviation in Evendale where test engines are built by hand.
LEAP will contain shrouds in the turbine made using ceramic matrix composites, a material with microscopic fibers woven together. Its fuel nozzles will be made using the 3-D manufacturing process which layers material upon material into the shape of the product.
Sites include the first manufacturing plant for mass production of ceramic matrix composites near Asheville, N.C.; also the first additive manufacturing plant in Auburn, Ala.; a Dayton research center for studying electrical power systems; and a plant under construction in West Lafayette, Ind., for final LEAP assembly.
At GE Aviation's headquarters campus in Evendale in suburban Cincinnati, it established in 2013 the GE Aviation Research Center in collaboration with the University of Cincinnati Research Institute, according to the company.
GE Aviation has a second commercial engine in development that is planned to enter the market by the end of the decade and will have parts built at some of the same factories. The GE9X, as it's called, will expand composites to more of the engine, including the combustor, brta Kennedy says.
Rhinestahl Corp. makes tools used to assemble, disassemble and conduct maintenance on jet engines for GE and its customers across the globe. In 2009, the supplier took over GE's customer tooling solutions business and moved its headquarters and manufacturing operations from Blue Ash to Mason as part of the expansion, said Chief Executive Officer Dieter Moeller.

The Aros probably seems a bit quaint compared to something like Nest ‘s learning thermostat, cintropur but there are plenty of people (especially apartment renters) who can’t make any major changes to their heating and cooling systems. This is the first major device to come from the companies’ recent partnership (GE poured $30 million into Quirky as part of its recent $79 million round ). Quirky has raised around $170 million to date — clearly, investors are eager to get a foothold in connected devices.
The Aros began as an idea that Garthen Leslie posted on the Quirky platform based on his frustrations with his own inefficient AC and his experience working at the Department of Energy. “I was tired of choosing between wasting energy [and] suffering through the stuffy summer heat,” he said in a statement.
After receiving the submission for this invention, it was clear that this was a product that absolutely needed to exist, but a challenge that most companies would shy away from,” Quirky founder and CEO Ben Kaufman said in a statement. With the support of GE s technology expertise, scale, and supply chain, we were able to focus our efforts on leveraging our community’s ideas into a beautifully designed product where every aspect of the product’s interaction cintropur was attended to.
If anything, the Aros shows what’s cintropur possible when you combine the efforts cintropur of smart consumers, a crowdsourcing platform, and traditional consumer electronics companies. It would have taken Leslie and Quirky a lot longer to develop an AC unit from scratch, cintropur and who knows how long it would have taken GE to think of something like this on its own.

A smart and oddly svelte air conditioner is the product of an unlikely life straw partnership between Quirky , the maker of bendy power strips and balance boards, and GE. The Aros air conditioner is an 8,000 BTU window unit that you can control via the buttons on its front, or through Quirky's Wink mobile app. It seems to work similarly to Nest , using power only when you're life straw in the room, and the company also claims life straw that the app will keep track of how much you spend on energy each month and give setting suggestions to help you save money.
It's surprising that it's taken so long for a product like this to exist, life straw but a partnership with GE makes sense given the company's vast experience with AC units . Aros life straw is slightly life straw more expensive life straw than similar air conditions at $300 and, unless you live in a shoebox, you'll need multiple units to cool your home. Compared to the classic yet ugly air conditioners we know and love to hate, Aros is a sight for sore eyes, but we'll have to wait and see if its function can match its form.

The berkey water filter agreement is just the beginning of an early demonstration phase, according to a GE spokesperson, and will explore the opportunity to integrate Highview’s LAES technology into GE’s natural gas peaker plants.
“Highview’s readily available LAES technology, with its ease of implementation and access to an operational pilot plant, makes it an ideal partner berkey water filter for GE Oil & Gas to provide fully integrated energy solutions berkey water filter to our customers,” Luca Maria Rossi, product management general manager for GE Oil & Gas’ Turbomachinery Solutions business, said in a statement.
Excess or off-peak electricity is used to power an air liquefier to produce liquid air. The liquid air is then stored in tanks at low pressure. When the energy is needed, the liquid air is pumped to a high level of pressure and is heated to a gas state. The gas is then used to drive a turbine.
Highview’s technology is an ideal fit for gas peaker plants, but can also be used with liquefied natural gas and industrial waste heat sites, according to Matthew Barnett, head of business development for Highview.
The technology requires some form of waste heat to increase its round-trip berkey water filter efficiency, which is the measure of how much energy comes out of the process compared to how much is put in. Heating liquid air by itself has a round-trip efficiency of only about 50 percent, berkey water filter CEO Gareth Brett told Greentech Media in 2012, but that figure gets closer to 80 percent when combined with waste heat from a power plant or industrial process.
For peaker plants, the storage technology makes the plants even more flexible, allowing berkey water filter them to both absorb and supply energy. LAES does not have the extremely fast ramping time of batteries or flywheels, but can improve the startup time of a peaker plant, cutting it from about ten  minutes to about two to five minutes.

The partnership with GE, on the other hand, gives Highview access to a global supply chain. Currently, the startup is working with GE on technology integration. No other pilot projects have yet been announced.
Highview is eager to expand into the U.S., where the 1.3-gigawatt energy storage mandate in California is attracting various technologies. The startup’s costs at the SSE plant outside of London have remained at about $1,000 per kilowatt, or about $500 per kilowatt-hour of energy stored, which is cheaper than current battery grid storage. berkey water filter

MANITOWOC, WIS. The first King Air powered by GE s new H80 turboprop engines has entered FAA 135 Air Charter service.
