LINTHICUM, Md. Northrop cov Grumman Corp. officials grant-ed GE Intelligent Platforms a license to use Northrop Grumman’s AFT (air-flow-through) cooling technology that is used to improve the cooling of high-power electronics.
AFT uses a heat exchanger design that enables the protection of the modules. It can cool as much as 175 watts of cooling per module, which meets VITA standard 48.5. It uses a channel with heat fins to isolate the electronic components from the cooling air. As a result, the air is forced past the heat fins to remove heat without risking exposure of the electronics to contaminants in the air. Sliding air seals at the inlet and outlet of the modules also help the flow of cooling air.
