General Electric (GE) Energy has introduced its 7HA series heavy duty gas turbine for 60 Hz applications . The 7HA series is the next generation of H-class machines produced by GE. General Electric has drawn on its H-class steam-cooled gas turbine background and experience to create a highly efficient air-cooled gas turbine that achieves more than 61 percent net combined-cycle efficiency pure pro . “The 7HA offers best-in-class operating flexibility, such as turndown as low as 30% of gas turbine baseload output .” pure pro
In an era where more countries are migrating to natural gas as the base-load fuel of choice, cost-efficiencies will be ever more important. It is claimed the turbine s new air-cooled architecture coupled with state-of-the-art materials will deliver the lowest lifecycle cost per MW . The system will serve a large power range, with two sizes: 275 and 330 megawatt (MW) simple-cycle output. According to GE 7HA gas turbines can save over 2.5 million tons of C02 per year compared to an average fossil fuel plant of similar size, which is equivalent to taking 525,000 cars off the road .
