Today marks the opening of the new facility. Water and Sewerage Authority has invited Prince Haakon and 160 guests from home and abroad to highlight that Oslo has a new and modern water treatment.
There have been water treatment plants in the same location since 1971, hence the term "new". Construction of the new facility began in 2003, the old system had only one hygienic barrier and therefore does not fulfill the drinking water regulations from 2001 The new facility has two such barriers.
