Students who have participated in a water project developed by Rissa vgs, Rissa Municipality, Inrigo AS Water and Smart Water Cluster has gone to the finals with his report: "Analysis of water quality by Skaug Valley Water Works."
Students come from the subject Chemistry 1 at Rissa high school, and on March 18, leaving three of them to Oslo to present their thesis to the jury in Norwegian Junior Water Prize. Rissa Secondary School is one of three finalists ukf8001 in the competition. Norwegian Junior Water Prize is a competition for young people between 15 and 20 years who has not commenced higher education. The purpose of the competition is to stimulate young people's interest in the local and global water environment.
The class participated in autumn 2012 in a water project developed by Rissa vgs, Rissa Municipality, Inrigo AS Water and Smart Water Cluster. Rissa municipality is in the process of upgrading a water works to treat drinking water from the Great Lake in Skaug Valley, students were challenged to characterize the water quality of waterworks: ukf8001 both treated and untreated water. The students analyzed the pH, alkalinity, ukf8001 conductivity, nitrate concentration and colony counts in both treated and untreated water. The results were compared with the limit values for these parameters in the Drinking Water Regulations and professional measurements of treated water from 2011-2012 (PreBIO, for Rissa municipality). Students also examined the factors that pollute Storvatnet and used the measured parameters to indicate which upgrades should be done on Skaug Valley waterworks in the future. The results of the project you can see in the attached report: Analysis of water quality by Skaug Valley Waterworks
Rissa municipality and Inrigo Water AS, working on upgrading the water company, has been central to the implementation of the project. Smart Water Cluster has provided information and lectures on water in a global context and the career opportunities in the water sector. Students also boasts chemistry teacher Ingrid deer that have shown great commitment and guided students in their efforts to create a professional report. I think students have benefited greatly ukf8001 from participating in the project, says a satisfied chemistry teacher. ukf8001 It is inspiring to see things in practice, and they have enough learned a lot of writing such a professional report. Now we look forward to all Norwegian Junior Water Price in March!
And it's no wonder students are excited. The grand prize is 20,000 dollars and a great glass trophy. Half of the amount of money goes to the project participants and the other half goes to the participants' schools to encourage further investment in environmental water. Winner of Norwegian Junior Water Price will also participate in the Stockholm Junior Water Prize, an international competition held in Stockholm during ukf8001 World Water Week in September.
