The municipality of Trikala is one of the five European cities where buses will be tested without drivers under the CityMobil2. However, it should be preceded by the legalization of automated vehicles in cooperation with the Ministry of Transport. Trikala, which were awarded in 2009 as one of the most "smart" cities in the world, competed with 11 other European cities across Europe and failed to qualify for the five cities that will hold six-month trials.
